I guess you could say that it all started in 2007 when I bought my first home. I was just 24 years old, and I had already fallen head over heels in love with real estate. But when I tried to sell that home, it was a complete nightmare.
I needed to sell it FAST because I had just purchased another home in Tacoma and couldn’t afford to pay two mortgages. But it took much longer to sell than I thought it would. The first offer fell through several days before we were supposed to close. Why? The buyer’s financing wasn’t approved (even though he was somehow “pre-approved” for a higher amount).
The second offer also fell through…this time because the buyers changed their minds. To make matters even more stressful, they refused to release the earnest money. It took over a month to sort everything out and put the house back on the market. It ended up taking me over three months to sell my house—and that’s not including the months of work and thousands of dollars I invested to get it market-ready.
All the while, I was paying two mortgages and insurance premiums. And spending every weekend running back to the house to mow the lawn and keep the landscaping in tip-top shape.
It was exhausting. And not worth it.
